Rovco Gets More Funding for New Subsea Tech

Subsea services company Rovco has secured additional funding from Innovate UK to develop the next stage of its 3D vision and Artificial Intelligence (AI) survey technology.

The AUV3D Phase 2 continues from the first phase of the project which included trials at Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult’s renewable energy test facility in Blyth, UK.

In collaboration with ORE Catapult and ScottishPower Renewables, the funding will be used to support additional research into the 3D vision technology by applying machine learning and AI-based analysis to 3D survey and cable burial data.

During the 18-month project, the aim is to achieve live transmission of 3D subsea models to shore and to commercialize the technology as the project progresses.

Earlier this year, Rovco secured a GBP 1.2 million funding for the launch of the new live 3D subsea survey system.

According to the UK-based company, the combined total in technology grants now amounts to GBP 1.46 million.

Once trialed and tested, Rovco believes the technology could transform the way offshore inspections are carried out and reduce costs by millions each year.
