Fishermen Express Concern on Possible Wind Farm Impact (USA)

New Bedford fishermen have raised their voice on possible impact of Offshore wind turbines on fish stocks, reports South Coast Today.

The area proposed for offshore wind turbines is marked as a place with high concentration of winter flounder spawning, so it could be a problem, although it is less known about the possible impact of electromagnetic frequencies on fish community.

Apart from the negative impact on fish habitat, local ships could experience navigational problems while trying to avoid turbine fields.

After the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management published a notice about environmental assessment of the area, the boat owners expressed certain concerns.

Trust is the big thing. Wind turbine developers might hire private companies to conduct environmental studies that might not be without bias,” the boat owner Eric Hansen stated.
