Poland: PGE, PKN Orlen to Win Rights for Baltic Sea Wind Farms

Citing an unidentified source Rp.pl reported that Polish integrated electric company PGE SA and oil refiner PKN Orlen (PKN) are the winners of permits for construction of wind farms on the Baltic Sea, adding that the formal decision will be made public in a matter of days.

Apparently the remaining 59 applications for the project might be rejected by the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Maritime Economy, due to conflicting issues when it comes to geological concessions. Therefore it is necessary to determine locations which will be identified as sites for exclusive construction of wind farms in order to avoid such collisions.

The move of Polish Government to development of renewable energy along with construction of offshore wind farms could bring the Polish shipbuilding industry back to its feet. It would also purport an estimated 700 million euros of profit a year in two decades, giving a boost to employment and overall economic progress.
