UK: Port of Ramsgate to Host PATCH ‘Blue Energy’ Workshop

Ports & Logistics

Port of Ramsgate will host PATCH’s (Ports Adapting To Change) ‘Blue Energy’ workshop on 22 June 2012, reports Maritime Journal.

Seeports strategist Howard Holt is the organizer of the workshop which is similar to the event held in September 2010.

The ‘Blue Energy’ workshop will focus on the opportunities for ports from wave and tidal energy.

Hold was quoted as saying: “These opportunities range from small scale energy generation based within the ports themselves to the construction and servicing of large offshore wave and tidal energy devices. PATCH is particularly interested in the possibilities for medium and smaller ports, who by their nature have limited resources, but can benefit from assistance in first understanding the technologies and then working with the developers and their suppliers to assist in the deployment of suitable wave and tidal energy devices.”

“Ports Adapting To Change” is an EU funded transnational collaboration project between eight ports including Ramsgate, Newhaven, Portsmouth, Calais, Zeebrugge, Zeeland Seaports and Oostende.

PATCH hosted a conference at Seawork last month on ways to improve strategy on the important issues of management, financing and cooperation at ports.
