USA: UMaine's Advanced Structures and Composites Center Offers Day Camps

The University of Maine’s Advanced Structures and Composites Center is hosting summer day camp for high school students on July 23 – July 27 and July 30 – August 3.

The Advanced Structures and Composites Center has a few spots left in its summer engineering day camps for high school students in the greater Bangor area seeking a challenging, innovative, and fun day camp experience this summer.

Windstorm Challenge Reloaded! (July 23 through July 27) – Gives students a chance to work with engineers and to design, build, and test their own floating offshore wind turbines. They will learn how to create a business pitch and market their new product. This week includes time spent in the pool and a trip Monhegan Island to visit the UMaine’s  Deepwater Offshore Wind Test Site.

Build, Bend, and Break! (July 30 through August 3) –  Students will design and build two products. Once the products are tested and proven, they will work with Innovation Engineers on their business pitch.

Both weeks include hands-on math and science workshops to help build skills before the next school year. Students will meet professional engineers, faculty, and current students, and tour UMaine’s engineering laboratories.
