China: Dongfang to Present 5.5MW Offshore Wind Turbine

Chinese manufacturer, Dongfang Electric, has announced its plans to launch a 5.5MW offshore wind turbine, Energy Live News reports.

Besides co-developing the wind turbine, AMSC, a U.S. Based engineering company, has provided wind turbine electrical control system for the turbine.

The new wind turbine will be installed in Nantong, in east China’s Jiangsu province for testing later this year.

As the industry officials predict, in the upcoming decade China will meet its energy needs by installing 100 wind turbines on annual basis, with the capacity of 5MW and larger.

Having that in mind, Dongfang hopes to increase its market share from 11.1% to 15% by 2015.

The company has 6,898MW of installed capacity.
