Scottish Enterprise Requires Site Investigation Contractor for Port of Leith

Scottish Enterprise, in association with Forth Ports Limited and City of Edinburgh Council, is considering investment options for the Port of Leith. The aim will be to provide flexible facilities at Leith for a range of possible industry uses including dry bulk cargo, cruise shipping, offshore wind turbine manufacturing, installation and maintenance vessels, oil and gas decommissioning, carbon capture and storage vessels and ferry services.

An intrusive investigation is to be undertaken at the site to provide information on the ground conditions present at the site, to allow the detailed design of the enabling works, which will principally comprise the construction of a new heavy load route across the site to a new outer berth. The intrusive investigation will also be undertaken across the whole development area to provide preliminary investigation information on these areas. Some of the boreholes require being undertaken within the impounded dock and therefore drilling from a pontoon (or similar) will be required.

As the proposed investigation is being undertaken in an operational port and some of the work is being undertaken over water, it is imperative that the site investigation contractor can demonstrate that they have undertaken the same or similar intrusive investigation of similar scale in an operational port during the last 5 years.

The works are to commence on-site no later than the 18 February 2013 and all of the boreholes and trial pits are to be completed within a 6 week period. The contractor must ensure that they have sufficient resources available to undertake the works within this timescale.
