Japan Mitsubishi Eyes 10 Pct of Offshore Wind Market

Mitsubishi is planning to take a 10 % of the world’s offshore wind market by 2017, according to Bloomberg.

Even though Siemens and Vestas are holding 80 % share in this market, Mitsubishi is planning to take its piece of the renewable pie by developing a large-scale wind power generation system that adopts a hydraulic drive train to replace the earlier gear-driven system, announced Masahide Umaya, head of Mitsubishi Heavy’s offshore wind development.

This technology will reduce the nacelles weight and size.

“They will also allow the turbine to capture more energy at lower wind speeds, which could dramatically improve its efficiency,” said Justin Wu, lead wind analyst for Bloomberg.
