Germany Friesland Kabel Inks SylWin Alpha Contract

Friesland Kabel GmbH, the specialist for marine and offshore connections in Norderstedt near Hamburg, takes over the complete delivery, including logistics for the wiring of the new offshore converter platform “SylWin Alpha”, which for the moment is manufactured by Nordic Yards in Warnemünde.

Several hundred kilometers of cable must be installed for safe operation of the plant.

SylWin alpha is built around 70 kilometers west of Sylt and is up to 864 MW of electricity from offshore wind farms and DanTysk Butendiek of AC and DC power and convert forward to the German mainland. The substation has huge dimensions. With a total height of about 80 meters (including 40 meters above the water), a width of 56 meters and a length of 82 meters it is the largest platform of its kind

Moreover, the new development of a hybrid cable for the camera monitoring comes on the platform in use. All cables are halogen-free, flame-retardant, low smoke and fire resistant for special applications, highly flexible and have the necessity for marine applications DNV and GL approvals and IEC standards. SylWin Alpha will be ready approximately in spring 2014.
