Offshore Wind Survey Begins off Maryland, USA

Coastal Planning & Engineering Inc., a Florida-based company, began surveying the seabed off the coast of Maryland on Monday, The Baltimore Sun informs.

By using a 130-foot vessel Scarlett Isabella, which comprises high-tech sonar and seismic equipment, the company is performing a high-resolution geophysical survey of the wind energy area located 10 to 30 miles off the state. The gathered data will help offshore wind developers with bidding for leasing sites to the Federal Government.

At the beginning of the year, Maryland Board of Public Works awarded a USD 3.3 million contract to Coastal Planning & Engineering to conduct this survey.
