R&D

Global engineering, sciences and project delivery firm, Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) has been appointed by National Grid Offshore to undertake a major Offshore Transmission Design, Technology and Economic Study.

The study, which will span over five months, covers the economic, technology and design aspects of offshore electricity transmission networks and will develop optimised transmission solutions to support timely, economic and efficient delivery of the ambitious renewable targets which have been set.

Morris Bray, Development Manager for National Grid Offshore, said: “We are looking forward to working with SKM in undertaking such an exciting piece of work. Together we have a chance to break new ground and set out our vision for how offshore transmission networks should develop in coming years.”

Chris Jones, Technical Director at SKM said: “The study is a great opportunity to support National Grid Offshore as they develop their value proposition to become the leading offshore transmission owner, as well as supporting others engaged in offshore transmission to identify solutions and development paths based on an integrated assessment of the technical and economic considerations.”
