Gurit Presents 2011 Product Portfolio at China Wind Power 2011 (China)

Gurit, a world-wide leading supplier of composite materials and technical solutions to the global wind energy market is to exhibit at the forthcoming China Wind Power 2011 exhibition, from Wednesday 19th October to Friday 21st October 2011.

The exhibition to be held at the New China International Exhibition Center, Beijing, China, is an annual meeting point for business leaders, technical specialists and investors involved in the wind energy industry.

Exhibiting at the exhibition on stand EF33, Gurit will be showcasing its latest product innovations, including its extended core offering, as well as its Carbon Fibre and Tooling expertise for the wind energy market.

Structural Core offering for the Wind Energy market

In response to the demand for multiple core designs Gurit has extended its structural core product range and now covers PVC, PET, Balsa and SAN core types all with a distinct range of properties and attributes.

Corecell™ T-Foam has been developed as a technological step-change from traditional PVC and Balsa structural core with the feature of low resin uptake to reduce cost and weight.

G-PET recyclable structural foam is a highly adaptable, recyclable, thermoplastic foam with good balance of mechanical properties, temperature resistance, density and cost, for a wide range of applications and production processes.

PVCell™ G-Foam is a closed cell, crosslinked PVC foam developed specifically for the Chinese wind energy market to provide the complete core range.

G-Balsa is a premium quality end-grain Balsa core material suitable for use in a wide variety of structural sandwich applications.

 Carbon Fibre Spar Caps

As the demand for larger and more efficient wind turbines increases, the emergence of multi-megawatt generators has seen the blade length grow to over 50m. This has generated the demand for more advanced composite engineering and material solutions such as carbon fibre.

Gurit has a long history of engineering with carbon fibre and providing carbon materials and processing solutions for a wide range of markets. This expertise is particularly advanced in wind energy where Gurit has been supplying carbon spar manufacturing solutions since 2003.

The technical challenges of using carbon materials to make blade spar caps can be overcome using Gurit’s patented SparPregTM material and specialist processing techniques to provide the following key benefits:

  •  Fast material deposition rates
  • Single debulk vacuum processing
  • 95 °C Curing and Low Exotherm
  • Very low void content and material wrinkling in thick sections (eg 80mm)
  • Wide range of industrial grade fibre choice

Tooling Expertise from Red Maple, the Tooling business of Gurit

With plans to broaden it’s offering to Wind Energy customers and in particular to the wind turbine blade manufacturers employing infusion technology, Gurit acquired Suzhou Red Maple Wind, a world-wide leading manufacturer of moulds for the manufacture of wind turbine blades, in 2009. Established in 2007, Red Maple is the largest wind blade mould manufacturer worldwide, producing over 40 mould sets a year. Red Maple’s ISO9001 facility is situated in Taicang, China, and has over 600 skilled employees dedicated to the design and manufacture of high quality tooling, using innovative technology. With complete vertical integration of the mould production process, Red Maple sets the new benchmark for tooling system cost and delivery time. Red Maple can offer a variety of high quality moulds appropriate for any production process at an affordable price.
