National Trust Objects to Atlantic Array, UK

After RWE Renewables issued a draft environmental impact assessment last month, the National Trust has again raised its voice against the Atlantic Array offshore wind farm, This is North Devon news site released.

In its statement, the National Trust said that the proposed offshore wind farm will bring in an industrial scale development to the coastline and it will dramatically change the views from both the North Devon and Gower coastlines, dominating the seascape around Lundy.

Measures which the National Trust will take to deal with this problem involve checking the Atlantic Array’s compliancy with the Strategic Environmental Assessment and considering other locations for the project’s development. For that purpose, it will call on the National Infrastructure Directorate,Crown Estate and Department of Energy and Climate Change.

Until the Atlantic Array project, the National Trust said that it had not opposed to any other offshore wind farm, including Liverpool Bay and Great Gabbard, which are visible from the coast.
