SgurrEnergy Plans to Expand HQ in Glasgow, UK

SgurrEnergy has announced plans this week to double its workforce as part of a three-year expansion plan, adding to its 10th anniversary celebrations.

Having worked on over 65,000MW of renewables projects across 40 countries, plans are afoot to double the size of the company’s headquarters on Bath Street in Glasgow to 14,500 square feet. The fit-out is scheduled to be completed by September which will allow the accommodation of its increasing staff numbers and achieve increased turnover plans.

A recruitment drive has already commenced to bring on board several key staff members, from renewable energy consultants and engineers to technicians and business support staff.  The stream of recruitment will continue over the next three years to accommodate the growing needs of the business and client demand, taking planned headquarters-based staff numbers to around 180.

The expansion plans are not limited to SgurrEnergy’s headquarters. The company plans to open a further two international offices to service key regions in 2013, further spreading its reach and expertise.

Technical director and joint founder of the company, Ian Irvine, said: “As the UK continues to navigate its way through difficult economic times and with Glasgow’s unemployment rate at a 16-year high, it’s fantastic to be able to provide career opportunities in a thriving Scottish-based company. The renewable energy industry is growing, both domestically and globally, and demand for our technical engineering services is increasing. As a result SgurrEnergy is taking this opportunity to expand its Glasgow facilities and workforce with plans in place to continue its success and growth worldwide.”

SgurrEnergy, a Wood Group company, is headquartered in Glasgow with six international offices in Wexford (Ireland), Paris (France), Vancouver (Canada), Portland (USA), Pune (India) and Beijing (China).

Director of operations and leading the expansion strategy, Alan Smith, said: “Demand for SgurrEnergy’s expertise and services in global renewable energy projects has increased steadily and now our staff numbers, resources and capabilities are developing well ahead of our predicted plans for growth.

“SgurrEnergy’s unique range of engineering experience and strong client portfolio have generated significant project wins and now present huge market opportunities for us. Increase in demand means that we require to scale our technical, analytical and support teams throughout the business and we are looking forward to realising our expansion plans at our Glasgow head office.”
