Spain: IREC to Hold Workshop 'HVDC Grids for Offshore Wind Power'

Experts on HVDC grids for offshore wind power will meet at the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC) to present, analyse and discuss the latest advances in the technologies and research in the field of HVDC electric power transmission systems for offshore wind farms.

The workshop will be held in the framework of the training activities run every year by the Electric Energy Systems – University Enterprise Training Partnership (EES-UETP). The workshop will take place from 10 to 12 December in the conference room of the IREC.

During the workshop, issues relevant to power grids, such as their control and operation, modelling, simulation, design, planning, protection and interaction, will be presented and discussed.

Amongst others, the event will be attended by Dr Pär Samuelsson of ABB; Rafael Bonchang and Marcia Martins from Alstom Grid and Alstom Wind, respectively; Johan Rimez from Elia; Dr Alexandre Parisot of RTE France; Dr Jun Liang from Cardiff University; Dr Dirk van Hertem, Jef Beerten and Hakan Ergun from KU Leuven; Dr Helder Leite from Porto University; and Dr Oriol Gomis-Bellmunt from the CITCEA-UPC and the IREC.

The workshop has been designed to present offshore wind energy technologies, as well as to discuss the numerous challenges to be overcome related to the development of HVDC grids for offshore wind power.
