SgurrEnergy Opens Offices in Norway, Brazil

This week, SgurrEnergy announced the opening of two new international offices, bringing its total number of global offices to nine. With headquarters in Glasgow, Scotland, these recent developments see the company’s reach extend to Norway and Brazil with plans for further growth in Germany in 2013. This comes just weeks after a double win for the company, picking up the International Trade award and Most Outstanding Business at the 2012 Glasgow Business Awards.

Starting out 10 years ago in a small attic office in Glasgow, the company has rapidly grown to achieve a track record of over 85,000MW of project experience and an international workforce of over 150 staff. Working on high profile renewable energy projects globally, it quickly expanded into Ireland, France, China, India, USA and Canada, providing expert engineering services to the global market.

To celebrate the launch of the Norwegian office, SgurrEnergy is working in conjunction with NORWEA to host a seminar on cutting-edge techniques to improve energy yield. Taking place in Oslo on 17 October, the seminar is free to attend by registering here and will help the Norwegian wind industry take steps towards developing to its full potential.

The Brazilian office, based in Rio and with staff in Sao Paulo, was launched last month at Brazil Windpower to service the rapidly developing renewables market in South America, with particular focus on energy yield and wind measurement and analysis, with SgurrEnergy’s 3D wind scanning device, Galion Lidar. Brazil has already been a source of significant business growth for SgurrEnergy, with its world-leading Lidar providing excellent results and benefits when addressing the country-specific challenges that many Brazilian projects face.

Director of business development, Simon Luby, said: “We have very quickly been able to identify exciting new areas for growth where our expertise can make a unique contribution to the quality and risk profile of renewable energy projects in these regions. By identifying high calibre local staff with relevant experience, we will develop our offering in the heart of these growing renewables markets.”

Further offices are planned as SgurrEnergy continues its successful and sustainable growth as leading international renewable energy experts.”

SgurrEnergy’s newly hired Nordic Business Manager, Hans Ole Lørup, said: “It’s fantastic that SgurrEnergy has moved into the Norwegian renewables market with an office in Stavanger, the energy capital of Norway.”

The company’s  most recent work in Norway involved conducting independent due diligence of the 74MW Høg-Jæren project as lender’s engineer. By mid-2012, this first project financed wind farm in Norway had completed its first year of operation with better than expected production, one of only a small number of Norwegian projects to do so based on industry studies conducted within the country. This clearly demonstrates the benefits of using best practices in energy yield analysis and demonstrates the value that SgurrEnergy brings to both developers and lenders.

Last month, SgurrEnergy announced major expansion plans, including doubling its workforce over the next three years and doubling its office space at its Glasgow headquarters by the end of the year.
