Korea: Hyundai Heavy Develops 5.85 MW Generator for Offshore Wind Turbines

Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), the world’s biggest shipbuilder and a leading green energy company announced today that it has developed 5.85 MW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) for offshore wind turbines.

The PMSG is the main equipment of wind turbine for converting wind energy to electricity. With improved durability and minimized use of expendables, product life of the generator is extended from 20 to 25 years.

The development of PMSG will be a catalyst for Hyundai Heavy to enter into the 5 MW and 6 MW offshore wind turbine markets.

Hyundai Heavy plans to commercialize the generator by 2014 after finalizing field tests.
