Andrew Tyler Resigns as CEO of Marine Current Turbines (UK)

Dr Andrew Tyler FREng CBE has resigned as Chief Executive Officer of Siemens’ Marine Current Turbines (MCT) and will be leaving the company at the end of the year.

Andrew was appointed as MCT’s CEO in June 2011 after five years as Chief Operating Officer for the UK Ministry of Defence. Andrew was recruited to manage the transition of MCT from an R&D technology-based operation to become a product-based OEM.

During his tenure Andrew has been central to transitioning MCT to becoming a Siemens business. With Siemens’ recent announcement relating to the divestment of its Solar business which sat alongside hydro, ocean energy and storage technologies under the E X division, the Hydro and Ocean business units will now report directly to the Energy Sector. With this restructure of the hydro and ocean technologies, Andrew considers that this is now a sensible time for him to stand down.

Andrew Tyler said: “I joined MCT to secure future funding for the business and exceeded this objective through the complete acquisition of MCT by Siemens in February 2012. For a business like MCT this was a dream come true, with the capability, financial backing and market penetration that Siemens has brought. I am leaving the business in great hands.”

MCT’s senior management team said: “On behalf of all of the team at MCT we would like to thank Andrew for his leadership and mentoring over the last 18 months.  Andrew is an exceptional talent and we have all thoroughly enjoyed working with him.  He has made a huge contribution to the business since he has been with us and we are all privileged to have worked with him. We understand Andrew’s decision and wish him well on his future ventures.”

The senior management team of Paul Jones, David Ainsworth, Matthew Reed and Martin McKenna will continue to manage the MCT operations. Martin McKenna joined MCT recently to fill the vacant Director of Operations role. Martin has transferred from the Siemens UK offshore wind team where he was Head of Wind Turbine Service Projects and brings with him a wealth of offshore wind operational experience.

Siemens has no plans to recruit a replacement CEO to join the MCT team.
