Dutch, Greeks Team Up on Floating Wind Energy

ASIFF BV, a subsidiary of brokering and consultancy company Costa Renewables The Netherlands BV (CRNL), and Greek owned ZEUS Development BV i.o. have joined forces in further developing and bringing to market of Zeus Development’s unique, under WIPO PCT patent-pending, UNFLOP (UNsinkable-stable unaffected from waves FLOating truss Platforms) and WWT (Wing-Wheel-Turbines) – PWT (Paddle-Wheel-Turbines) technologies, whereby ASIFF BV has the exclusive global responsibility to sell licenses for products based on these patents, while ZEUS Development will remain controlling IPR owner and hold exclusive responsibility for the technical R&D.

“The possibilities based on UNFLOP are enormous,” Mr Eduard Wehnes, ASSIF BV’s Chairman of the Board, stated, explaining his choice for partnering with ZEUS Development. “We are talking about a true enabling technology, allowing for the construction of multifunctional floating structures that offer very high stability and load carrying capabilities for the generation of green energy, while at the same time offering promising use in many other sectors, for example coastal defence strategies!”

The UNFLOP concept is based on a large number of buoyant bodies in a modular truss structure that dissipates the wave energy, creating a virtually unsinkable and stable structure that is capable of carrying any loads and allows for multifunctional use (i.e Wind Turbines, Wave Energy Converters, Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion, Photo Voltaic).

WWT and hydro PWT generators efficiently operate by making optimal use of the interaction with air-water molecules in wind, wave, tidal and underwater currents produced by the rotating movements of the generators’ wings-paddles, utilizing continuously both fluid dynamics force components Drag and Lift.

Dutch, Greeks, Team, Up, Floating, Wind, Energy Mr Themistoklis Andrikopoulos, the inventor and ZEUS Development’s Chairman and controlling IPR owner of the UNFLOP and WWT-PWT patents, responded that he is “extremely happy with ASIFF as partner in bringing his innovative technologies to a next level”.

“The possibilities are endless. Imagine clean energy production on such platforms, with the size of whole islands, from WWT wind generators or other conventional wind turbines like the Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine (HAWT), and PWT or other hydro energy converters, in combination with water desalinization, Integrated Multi Trophic Aquaculture (algae, shell-fish and fish) and any other supporting installations. At the same time these platforms can be part of a country’s coastal defence by dissipating wave energy, or used as floating mobile Met-Mast, Marinas, or Maritime Border Security Systems! This also allows for floating real estate-housing complexes to be exploited where needed.”

ZEUS Development is currently competing in the National Finals of the Cleantech Open Global Ideas competition that will take place during Disrupt Startup ScaleUP on November 15th-16th at the Megaron Athens International Conference Centre.

ZEUS Development is supported by the ATIO Group which provides significant technical knowledge and con-struction capabilities for future licensees, as well as by a number of research groups at several international universities, research centers and industries.

ASIFF BV will use its extensive global network and decades of offshore experience to help unlocking the potential of these highly promising inventions. ASIFF BV is represented by CRNL on the Dutch Trade Mission to Asia to introduce the UNFLOP and WWT-PWT concepts-technologies.
