Dutch Company to Build Offshore Substation Topside for Danish Wind Farm

Business & Finance

Dutch company HSM Offshore BV has signed a contract with Energinet.dk to supply the topside of an offshore substation for the third offshore wind farm at Horns Rev off Blåvands Huk.

The contract with HSM Offshore, worth DKK 207 million (EUR 27.8 million), involves building the topside in Rotterdam, after which it will be shipped to Esbjerg. This is scheduled for the spring of 2016, as the installation is due to be carried out at that time.

Energinet.dk is now working to find a supplier of foundations and the base for the substation.

The Horns Rev 3 offshore substation will transform the voltage from 33 kV to 220 kV before sending the electricity ashore. The system also consists of a submarine cable from the platform to the coast, land cables from the coast to the substation in Endrup and expansion of this station. The entire system should be operational by the end of 2016.
