The managing director (MD) of what is to be the world’s largest wind farm is to speak at next week’s energy conference in Norwich.

Jonathan Cole, managing director of Scottish Power Renewables, announced as winners of the government’s first renewables auction on Wednesday, will tell the more than 400 delegates at at the East of England Energy Group (EEEGR) SNS2015 conference about business opportunities for supply chain companies offered by the development of East Anglia One.

Energy minister Matthew Hancock is now unable to deliver the keynote speech. However, he has sent a video to be played in the main conference hall after EEEGR chief executive Simon Gray’s welcome on Thursday morning.

Mr Cole will talk through the next steps for development of the first 100 turbines on the 714MW East Anglia One – due to start in 2017 and to be fully up and running by 2020 – and about potential for more turbines in the zone.

Simon Gray, EEEGR chief executive, said: “We are delighted that Jonathan confirmed he would join the main conference programme once the results of the auction were known.

“We are all keen to hear details of the wind farms developments and the opportunities it will bring to the East of England.

“That the announcement came so close to SNS2015 and it provides the forum to share this news to our members is especially fortunate.”
