Arup has been appointed by Laing O’Rourke as its lead design and engineering partner to deliver the lagoon’s 410 metre turbine house and sluice structure block for the Swansea Bay tidal lagoon.

Arup will provide a variety of services on the project, including Structural and Geotechnical design, Project Management, Mechanical, Engineering and Plumbing (MEP) Engineering, Minor Environmental Planning and Marine Engineering Design.

“The global tidal industry is entering an exciting phase and we’re at the very forefront of its development here in Swansea. Our involvement recognises Arup’s multi-disciplinary expertise and world-class technical excellence,” said Henrietta Ridgeon, Project Director .

Earlier this year, General Electric and Andritz Hydro were named as preferred bidders to supply turbines for the proposed project. China Harbour Engineering Company will undertake the marine works.
