Wood Thilsted has been awarded a contract to carry out the detailed design of up to 100 monopile foundations for the 1.5 GW Outer Dowsing offshore wind farm in the UK North Sea.
The award follows the engineering consultancy’s completion of front-end engineering and design (FEED) work for the project earlier this year. The company was first appointed to design the project’s turbine foundations in 2024, when it began FEED work covering the primary and secondary structures, engineering studies and cost modelling.
Wood Thilsted will now develop the detailed foundation designs, taking into account site conditions, structural requirements and installation constraints.
Outer Dowsing is being developed by TotalEnergies, Macquarie and Broadhelm Renewables, and Gulf Development approximately 54 kilometres off the Lincolnshire coast.
The offshore wind farm is one of six offshore wind projects selected in the UK’s Round 4 offshore wind seabed leasing in 2022, which signed agreements with the Crown Estate in January 2023.
The project received development consent from the UK government in February 2026.
The 1.5 GW Outer Dowsing is expected to generate enough electricity to power around 1.6 million homes and attract approximately GBP 2 billion (around EUR 2.3 billion) in UK investment over its lifetime, according to the developers.
