7 MW Fukushima Turbine Preparing for Installation

Fukushima Offshore Wind Consortium plans to tow the 7 MW wind turbine from Onahama Port to its offshore site on July 31-August 1 and moor it in the following 20 days. 

Then, from August 20 to September 30, the developer plans to carry out the laying and burying of riser cable at the Fukushima Experimental Offshore Floating Wind Farm site.

Assembly works of the 7 MW oil pressure drive-type wind turbine on the three-column semi-sub floater at Onahama Port were completed last month.

In addition, laying and burying the dynamic cables for the 5 MW downwind-type floating wind turbine at the testing area have been completed.
Parts procurement and construction of the 5MW turbine is in progress.

The consortium developing the project comprises Marubeni (project integrator), the University of Tokyo (technical advisor), Mitsubishi, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Japan Marine United, Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding, Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal, Hitachi, Furukawa Electric, Shimizu, and Mizuho Information & Research.

The experimental offshore floating wind farm project is sponsored by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry since March 2012.
