First Gemini Foundations Grouted with MasterFlow 9800

Wind Farm Update

Only four months after introduction of the new bulk supplied offshore grout MasterFlow 9800 from BASF, the material is being used during the installation of the offshore foundations at the 600 MW Gemini Offshore Windpark.

Installation of the first monopile.

The specialized grouting equipment of FoundOcean and BASF’s MasterFlow 9800 was mobilized at the harbor of Eemshaven. After installation of the monopiles and transition pieces with Van Oord’s offshore installation vessel Aeolus, the skirts were successfully back-filled using MasterFlow 9800.

The MasterFlow 9800 high-strength grout was mainly chosen because of its unique delivery and installation method, which allows to considerably reduce the offshore grouting time as part of the foundation installation, and being able to work in the shortest weather windows possible, BASF said.

The first 48 of 150 monopiles/transition pieces were already installed and grouted. The monopiles were each grouted within 45 minutes.
