Each substation will weigh 2,800 tons and the first unit will be delivered during the first half of 2018, the company said.

The contract represents Bladt’s first ever order to fabricate three substations at the same time for one project as serial production.

The electrical work for the substations is sub-contracted to Bladt’s long-term partner Semco Maritime.

DONG ordered the three substations in May 2016.

The Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm will comprise 174 wind turbines and four substations.

The offshore wind farm will be situated in the North Sea, 120 kilometres off the coast of Yorkshire in the UK.
