The load-out of the first of two substations built by the Engie Fabricom-Iemants consortium for DONG Energy’s 660MW Walney Extension offshore wind farm took place in Hoboken, Belgium, on Thursday, 9 March.

The topside was removed from its base on the production site and put on the pontoon.

The topside was loaded next to the jacket foundation which was transported earlier from the Iemants’ yard in Vlissingen, The Netherlands, to Hoboken.

Later this month, the topside and the jacket will leave towards England’s west coast where they will be installed offshore.

The load-outs of the second topside and the jacket for the Walney Extension offshore wind farm will take place later this month.

Walney Extension project has recently entered the offshore construction phase. Located next to the 367.2MW Walney 1 & 2 offshore wind farms off Cumbria, it will be the largest wind farm in the world when built, and is expected to be generating clean electricity by 2019.

The wind farm will consist of 40 8MW MHI Vestas and 47 7MW Siemens wind turbines.
