Rampion is the first ever offshore wind farm in Southern Britain and despite a relatively short distance of 13 kilometres from the coast, providing offshore accommodation throughout the commissioning phase is the preferred solution of the wind farm operator, C-bed said.

The flotel features 100 single cabins and can provide accommodation for up to 115 persons.

C-bed will be using Portsmouth as the base port for crew changes and loading of fresh supplies.

MPI Offshore’s jack-up MPI Discovery installed the first of 116 3.45MW MHI Vestas wind turbines at the site in early March. The installations are set to continue throughout 2017.

The wind farm is being built by E.ON, the UK Green Investment Bank plc and Canadian energy company Enbridge.

The project is due to be completed and fully operational in 2018.
