Jumbo’s Fairplayer Installing Arkona TPs, Equipped with SMST Gangway

Jumbo’s Heavy Lift Crane Vessel (HLCV) Fairplayer is now installing transition pieces (TPs) at the Arkona offshore wind farm. The vessel was outfitted with an SMST gangway shortly before the works started in early November, according to SMST.

Jumbo’s Heavy Lift Crane Vessel (HLCV) Fairplayer is now installing transition pieces (TPs) at the Arkona offshore wind farm. The vessel was outfitted with an SMST gangway shortly before the works started in early November, according to SMST.

Since all of the transition pieces will be installed floating in DP2 mode , the use of a compensated gangway is necessary, SMST said, adding that continuous access provided by the modular Telescopic Access Bridge M Series supports the project’s efficiency for walk-to-work operations.

The installation of monopiles at the Arkona offshore wind farm site has been completed ahead of schedule, allowing for an early start of the installation of the transition pieces , produced by Bladt Industries, with all 60 expected be in place at the beginning of 2018.

In the spring of 2018, the offshore transformer station built in cooperation with the grid operator 50Hertz will be transported to the Arkona construction site and installed.

The installation of the 60 Siemens 6MW turbines is scheduled to start in 2018, and the Arkona wind farm is expected to be commissioned in 2019.
