The turbine installation was carried out by using Swire Blue Ocean’s wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) Pacific Orca, which put the first Galloper turbine in place in May 2017, and Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s Bold Tern that joined the project to help out with the works and ensure a timely completion.

“We only installed the first turbine in May of this year so it’s great to get it wrapped up in time for Christmas,” Project Director at Galloper Wind Farm Limited, Toby Edmonds said. “At 180 metres tall, these are the biggest offshore wind turbines we’ve installed to date plus we’ve installed them in water up to 36 metres deep, so quite a feat of engineering and construction. This is a superb achievement made possible by a great team and great contract partners. Our focus now is to finish off commissioning works and get to full power in 2018.”

Development and construction of the GBP 1.5 billion Galloper offshore wind farm is led by innogy SE on behalf of its project partners UK Green Investment Bank (GIB), Siemens Financial Services and Macquarie Capital.
