The TPs for the Hohe See wind farm are being produced by a joint venture of Smulders and Sif, where Sif is in charge of the primary steel and Smulders of the secondary steel and outfitting.

The companies are expected to complete the production of the structures by mid-2018.

Swire Blue Ocean’s wind turbine installation vessel Pacific Osprey recently installed the first monopile foundation at the offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.

Located north of the island of Borkum, the 497MW Hohe See offshore wind farm will comprise 71 Siemens Gamesa 7MW turbines scheduled for commissioning in 2019.

Smulders said it started with the production of TPs in 2001 and manufactured the 1,000th piece 13 years later. In the following 3.5 years, the company produced another 500 TPs.
