The building was officially handed over to EMO on 26 April by Geert-Jan Huiges, Deputy Director of the general contractor BV Bouwbedrijf Kooi Appingedam.

It is equipped with showers, lounges and a drying room for workwear, making it suited for specialist usage by GE Renewables, the provider of 66 Haliade 6MW wind turbines for the wind farm, EMO said.

“The site offers optimum conditions for the long-term operational management and maintenance of the “Merkur” Offshore Wind Park,” said Project Manager Jens Grosse.

Merkur Offshore GmbH, the developer of the German 396MW Merkur offshore wind farm, signed a long-term contract with EMO in October 2017 for the construction of the service base.

The developer will rent the 500m² office complex with an adjacent 600m² warehouse area from May, while GE Renewable Energy will also use the entire infrastructure for the upcoming years.

Located 35km north of the island of Borkum, the Merkur offshore wind farm is expected to be fully operational in 2019.
