The 140 wind turbines of the two wind farms have a total capacity of 687MW. The inspections will be carried out in accordance with the requirements of Germany’s Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH).

The 302MW Amrumbank West is located about 32 kilometres north of Heligoland and comprises 80 Siemens SWT-3.6-120 wind turbines. Arkona is located about 35 kilometres northeast of Sassnitz on Rügen. Currently under construction, the wind farm will feature 60 Siemens SWT-6.0-154 wind turbines with a rated output of 385MW.

TÜV SÜD will be inspecting the supporting structures, wind turbines and substations on the wind farms.

“We are pursuing a holistic concept,” said Alexander Heitmann, Head of Offshore Wind Energy at TÜV SÜD.

“With our efficient combination testing during the operational phase, we can contribute to further cost reductions in offshore wind energy, helping operators in a solution-oriented and cost-optimized manner, without sacrificing safety.”
