Stantec to Lead Sunrise Wind Environmental Assessment Process

Wind Farm Update

Global design firm Stantec has been selected to lead the environmental permitting and assessment for the Sunrise Wind offshore wind project in New York.

A joint venture of Ørsted and the U.S. Eversource Energy is developing the project approximately 30 miles east of Montauk Point, off Long Island.

“This is an exciting project that, when complete, will generate enough electricity to power more than 500,000 homes,” said Diane Sullivan, Sector Leader for Renewable Energy at Stantec.

“As offshore wind energy continues to expand along the East Coast, our Stantec team is uniquely equipped with the skills and expertise to support the planning and delivery of these complex renewable energy projects.”

Sunrise Wind will comprise Siemens Gamesa SG 8.0-167 DD turbines scheduled to be operational in 2024.

Last year, NYSERDA selected the 880 MW wind farm in New York’s first solicitation. The agency is planning to issue the second offshore wind solicitation in 2020 for at least 1 GW of capacity.

To remind, New York has set a goal of achieving 9 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2035, as well as to generate 50% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
