OVO Energy will purchase 100% of the power from the 90 MW Barrow wind farm which has been operational since 2006.

By the end of the year, the company is aiming to increase the amount of renewable electricity backed by UK renewable electricity generation to almost 40%.

“We’re proud to work with Ørsted on a major power purchase agreement. In the future, we’re committed to exploring how we can source more energy from renewable generation here in the UK, supporting the industry and helping to drive down costs,” said Ben Blake, CEO of OVO Energy.

The Barrow offshore wind farm is located in the East Irish Sea approximately 7 km southwest of Walney Island, near Barrow-in-Furness.

The project, which is Ørsted’s first offshore wind farm in the UK, comprises 30 V90-3.0 turbines.
