Van Oord to Collaborate with German Company for Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm

Business & Finance

Germany-headquartered SAL Heavy Lift has signed contracts with Van Oord to support the transportation and installation of secondary structures for the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm in Poland.

Baltica 2 is the first stage of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm developed by PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna and Ørsted in the Polish Baltic Sea.

In February this year, Van Oord won a contract to construct the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 project. Under the agreement, the Dutch company will transport and install 111 extended monopiles, of which 107 will serve as foundations for Siemens Gamesa wind turbines and the other four as foundations for offshore substations.

Van Oord plans to deploy Aeolus and Svanen installation vessels on the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm.

Navantia-Windar will be supplying 77 monopile foundations for the project’s turbines and substations, and Steelwind Nordenham will deliver the remaining 34 wind turbine foundations for Baltica 2.

The developers recently unveiled that they expect to reach the final investment decision (FID) on the Baltica 2 offshore wind project, located approximately 40 kilometres off the coast of Poland between Łeba and Ustka, in the second half of this year.

Baltica 2 is expected to be finished by late 2027, and the 1 GW Baltica 3 project is anticipated to be completed by the end of the decade.

Once fully commissioned, the 2.5 GW offshore wind project could provide enough renewable energy to power four million Polish households.
