Goldwind’s 13.6 MW Wind Turbines Power Through Super Typhoon

Goldwind’s wind turbines at Yangjiang Shiba II & III, Zhanjiang Xuwen Southern offshore wind farms, and the 13.6 MW batch under construction have proven highly reliable amidst Super Typhoon Yagi, which has struck China’s south coast with winds exceeding 68 m/s, the Chinese wind turbine manufacturer said in a recent social media post.

Faced with Typhoon Yagi, Goldwind’s 13.6 MW wind turbine batch, which is currently being installed at an offshore wind project, implemented the company’s Goldwind Remote Communication Typhoon Resistance Control System.

The system, which Goldwind claims to be the first of its kind in China’s wind power industry, ensured the safety of over 30 installed turbines at a maximum wind speed of 44.3 m/s, according to the company.

In October 2022, Goldwind and China Three Gorges (CTG) unveiled the 13.6 MW wind turbine that has a rotor diameter of 252 metres.

According to China Daily, Goldwind’s GWH 252-13.6 MW has a swept area of about 50,000 m2 which is “equivalent to 7 standard football fields”.

In 2023, CTG and Goldwind installed a 16 MW turbine offshore, at the second phase of CTG’s Zhangpu Liuao offshore wind farm.

Goldwind’s GWH252-16MW model has 123-metre-long blades and a rotor diameter of 252 metres that has a swept area of around 50,000 square metres.
