Salamander onshore application

Onshore Consent Application Submitted for 100 MW Salamander Floating Wind Farm

Ørsted, Simply Blue Group and Subsea7, through their joint venture partnership in Scotland, have submitted their consent applications for the onshore aspects of the proposed Salamander floating offshore wind farm.

The first submission has been made to Aberdeenshire Council for the onshore substation and associated infrastructure and has been accepted, according to the joint venture.

The second submission, which was made to the Energy Consents Unit of the Scottish Government for the wind farm’s energy balancing infrastructure, includes battery storage that could help to balance the electricity grid.

“The onshore applications present our plans for the onshore facilities required for our project. Both are key areas of our development and support our vision for green energy. At each stage we have encouraged and incorporated feedback from our stakeholders, and we will continue to work with them throughout the approval process”, said Hugh Yendole, Project Director for Salamander.

These applications follow on from the offshore consent applications, which were submitted in April this year.

The 100 MW Salamander floating offshore wind project, one of the five INTOG innovation projects that signed exclusivity agreements with Crown Estate Scotland in May 2023, is planned to be built at a site located 35 kilometres off the coast of Peterhead.

Floating LiDAR and wave buoys were deployed at the project site in 2023 for wind measurement and metocean campaign as part of site investigations.

According to the developer, the floating offshore wind farm will be a contributor to the delivery of the Scottish Government’s target of 11 GW of offshore wind by 2030 and the UK Government’s target of 5 GW of operational floating offshore wind by the same date.
