Vestas has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Neretek, an offshore wind technology company founded by Wood Thilsted and COP Frontier, to explore opportunities to deploy the companies’ foundation and turbine technologies on deeper-water offshore wind projects.
Under the MoU, Neretek and Vestas will assess potential applications for Neretek’s BC90 foundation concept alongside Vestas’s offshore wind turbines to support the emerging Other Deep Water Offshore Wind (ODOW) segment.
Neretek was launched in July 2026 by Wood Thilsted and COP Frontier, a sister company to offshore wind developer Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP), to develop the BC90 technology for deeper-water offshore wind.
The BC90 foundation is designed for transitional water depths of 60 to 90 metres and is said to combine the simplicity of a monopile with the ability to be installed in deeper waters, bridging the gap between conventional fixed-bottom foundations and floating wind.
According to Neretek, the foundation could be manufactured using existing supply-chain capabilities and installed without relying on large specialist vessels.
The collaboration with Vestas aims to help expand offshore wind deployment into water depths beyond the range of conventional fixed-bottom solutions, while providing an alternative to floating wind in some deeper-water locations, according to Neretek.
