At the request of Innogy Nordsee 1 GmbH, Gardline Geosciences Limited performed a marine soil investigation for the proposed offshore wind farm Innogy Nordsee 1 which is located off the German coastline and 40 km to the north of the island of Juist.

The projected area of the proposed site was 145.6km². The objective of the preliminary geotechnical investigation was to provide a detailed geotechnical verification of the ground conditions at the proposed turbine locations.

The geotechnical operations were conducted from the MV Ocean Discovery, an anchored and DP1 vessel permanently mobilised for geotechnical investigations. The vessel arrived on site on 31 August 2011 and completed the full scope of work plus a number of additional deeper boreholes, cone penetration tests and downhole geophysical logging. A combination of on-board laboratory testing and real time processing of data enabled a quick turn around of results to the client’s engineer.

Gardline Business Development Director Andy Barwise said “I’m pleased that we’ve completed this project ahead of time, on budget and having obtained high quality data with a good end result – a happy client”
