Canada: ORPC Recommends Bay of Fundy Tidal Energy Cooperation

While speaking at an energy forum held on Thursday in Halifax, John Ferland, ORPC’s (Ocean Renewable Power Company) director of project development said that the tidal power industry in Maine and Nova Scotia should have a mutual approach to help the industry’s development, the Herald Business informs.

During an international panel on tidal energy development, Ferland said that it would be a great opportunity to combine Nova Scotia’s research infrastructure and expertise with the projects in Maine. Instead of duplicating research, they could share the results of environmental studies on the Bay of Fundy’s ecosystem.

That would allow the tidal energy developers in Canada to learn from ORPC’s experience with the federal and state regulatory process, like the fact that the results of environmental researches published earlier can get projects approved more easily.
