UK: Graduates Visit A&P North East

In 2009 A&P North East was approached by London Offshore Consultants Limited to see if the company could help them with work-placed visits for graduates. By providing young people with this opportunity it is seen to bridge the gap between education and working sites. A&P North East therefore welcomes different graduates each year at the Tyneside and Teesside sites.

The focus on the visit this year was A&P’s QHSE programme. The graduates spent time with Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality members of staff to find out more about the procedures the company adopted.

This covered docking/undocking operations, procedures to keep the personnel and the vessel safe, heavy lifts, confined spaces, energy management and environmental impact amongst other topics.

Jeff Fowler, Head of HSEQ commented: “All three showed great risk perception and hopefully we have instilled into them the importance of rigorous HSEQ controls within our industry. My team were greatly impressed by the attitude of the guys and their real interest in our work.

“The graduates ended their time with us with a presentation on what they had learnt throughout the time spent here commenting “It was a really good experience to see the practical side of the working environment rather than just having this explained via a text book.”

A&P North East support this scheme as it believes that these insights support the learning process, therefore it will continue to do this in collaboration with the LOC.
