RWE Acquires Licenses to Remove UXO from Gwynt y Môr Site

RWE Innogy UK has been granted the licenses to safely dispose of three objects, identified as unexploded ordnance (UXO), found on the seabed within the construction area of the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm.

At the end of February, the company announced that it had submitted application to the relevant bodies for licenses to remove the UXO.

A Marine Licence to undertake the works and a European Protected Species Licence were issued by Natural Resources Wales on 7th March. RWE is continuing to work with a number of contractors and consultants to identify the safest method of disposal and no date has yet been set to carry out such works.

Construction activity is continuing in the offshore site, with vessels complying with a 250 metre exclusion zone, which is currently in place in Liverpool Bay around the objects.
