Subsea support vessel (SSV) VOS Sugar, the newest addition to Vroon’s fleet, has started work on the BARD Offshore 1 wind farm, supporting dive operations and maintenance work on wind-turbine foundations for NDE Offshore.

NDE Offshore, a Sweden-based provider of subsea services, will conduct a combined topside and subsea campaign for the first time. The campaign comprises of underwater inspections, services and installation as well as inspection and service of transition pieces.

BARD Offshore 1 is located 100 kilometres northwest of Borkum and comprises 80 wind turbines with a total capacity of 400MW.

VOS Sugar is a DP2, SPS-coded, 68-metre SSV and one of two newbuilding SSVs to have been constructed at Fujian Southeast Shipbuilding in China. The vessel is fitted with an on-board system that actively compensates vessel movement. In combination with an additional 8m in length compared to earlier vessels, this contributes to a better motion behaviour and a more stable platform, according to Vroon.
