Cadeler’s Latest A-Class Vessel to Feature Kongsberg Tech

COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry has awarded Kongsberg Maritime a contract to supply a technology package for Cadeler’s latest A-class wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV), which is currently under construction in China.

This is the fifth Cadeler offshore installation vessel to be built at COSCO’s Qidong yard in China, all equipped with Kongsberg Maritime systems. The value of the latest contract is around NOK 350 million (approximately EUR 30 million).

The new vessel, of the Gusto NG-20000X design, will be the third A-class WTIV to join the Cadeler fleet.

The ship will have a deck space of 5,600 square metres and a payload of over 17,600 tonnes.

Kongsberg Maritime will supply the complete electrical, automation, and propulsion system, with a system comprising nine thrusters, all with fixed-pitch propellers. The package will consist of four UUC355FP main propulsion thrusters, two ULE355FP retractable azimuth thrusters, and two TT3300DPNFP tunnel thrusters.

The electrical system will comprise generators MV and LV SWBD’s, DC-SWBD’s, ESS, and propulsion drives in addition to the integrated control system, including the dynamic positioning (DP) system.

In May, Cadeler announced that it had placed an order with China’s COSCO Heavy Industries for its third A-class vessel, scheduled to be delivered in the first half of 2027.

The other two A-class vessels Wind Ally and Wind Ace are expected to arrive by the third quarter of 2025 and 2026, respectively.

The company already has two P-class, two M-class, and three A-class vessels under construction.

Recently, Cadeler’s first P-class ship, named Wind Peak, was delivered to the company from China.
