CS WIND Offshore Rolls Out Last Borkum Riffgrund 3 Monopile

CS WIND Offshore has completed the fabrication of the last monopile foundation for the Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farm in Germany and has marked the milestone with its loadout.

CS WIND Offshore, which acquired Denmark’s Bladt Industries in 2023, has manufactured 40 XXL wind turbine foundations for the 913 MW Borkum Riffgrund 3, which will become Germany’s largest offshore wind farm once operational, the company said.

In September 2021, Bladt Industries and Steelwind Nordenham signed monopile foundation supply contracts with Ørsted for the Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farms in Germany.

Borkum Riffgrund 3 is being built simultaneously with the 253 MW Gode Wind 3, which already delivered its first power in May this year.

The monopile installation work, which began last year on both projects, is being carried out by Jan De Nul Group.

In June 2024, the first Siemens Gamesa SG 11.0-200 DD wind turbine was placed on top of the monopile at the Borkum Riffgrund 3 project, jointly owned by Ørsted and Nuveen Infrastructure.

Ørsted won the rights to develop Borkum Riffgrund 3 at the German auction held in 2018 by bidding EUR 0, making it the world’s first large-scale offshore wind farm to be awarded with a zero bid.

Once fully operational, the offshore wind farm is expected to supply clean energy to 900,000 households.
