The first batch of four jacket foundations, manufactured by Petrovietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC), has set sail from Vietnam. The units will be installed at Ørsted’s Greater Changhua 2b & 4 offshore wind farms in Taiwan.

To celebrate this milestone, PTSC and others held a special ceremony on 1 December, with Vietnam’s Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính attending to recognize and commend the collaboration, said Jayaram Naidu, Vice President of Ørsted’s APAC Programme and Managing Director of Greater Changhua, in a recent social media post.

To date, 22 suction bucket jacket foundations have been completed, and the first shipment of four units has been loaded out and ready for delivery to Taiwan, said Petrovietnam.

In May 2023, PTSC signed a contract with Ørsted to supply 33 foundations for the 920 MW offshore wind farms.

The project is estimated to use 70,000 tonnes of steel and create thousands of jobs at PTSC and other contractors in the supply chain.

Additionally, HSG Sungdong in South Korea is responsible for delivering another 33 units for Greater Changhua 2b and 4.

The marshallin and lifting activities for 66 suction bucket jackets will be carried out by Mammoet-Giant Taiwan, a joint venture between the Dutch company Mammoet and Taiwanese Giant Heavy Machinery Service.

Located 35-60 kilometres off the coast of Changhua County, the offshore wind farms commenced construction in March 2023, following Ørsted’s final investment decision on the 920 MW projects.

The wind farms are expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

Along with Greater Changhua 2b and 4, Ørsted is also behind the development of the Greater Changhua 1 and 2a wind farms, which were officially opened in April this year.
