Akrocean deployed two floating LiDARs and a wave buoy at the end of November to collect data on the wind profile and conditions in the Bass Strait for what is to be Australia’s first offshore wind farm.

The equipment was towed to position by the vessel Molly Grace and will be out at sea for up two years.

Star of the South could comprise up to 250 turbines with a combined capacity of up to 2GW. If given the go-ahead, construction could start in 2020.

The project is a joint development by Australia’s Offshore Energy and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).
