Kent Wins Substation Design Contract for RWE’s UK Offshore Wind Farm Extension Project

Business & Finance

Kent, a global integrated energy services provider, has signed a new contract with Five Estuaries, being led by RWE, for a concept design study of an HVAC offshore substation platform for the offshore wind farm in the UK.

Kent’s scope of work comprises conducting the offshore substation topside concept design and support structure foundation assessment and concept design.

The Five Estuaries offshore wind farm is the sister extension project of the existing 353 MW Galloper Wind Farm, located 30 kilometres off the coast of Suffolk.

The first power from the project was generated in November 2017, and it became fully operational in March 2018. Each year, Galloper Wind Farm’s 56 turbines generate enough renewable energy to power the equivalent of more than 444,000 UK homes, according to Kent.

The proposed Five Estuaries offshore wind farm is located about 37 kilometres off the Suffolk/Essex Coast and is planned to be fully operational in 2031.

Five Estuaries is owned by a number of shareholders, with RWE leading the development, construction, and operation.

In April, the UK Planning Inspectorate accepted RWE’s application for the offshore wind project. According to our previous news, the final planning decision for Five Estuaries is expected in the summer of 2025.
