EEW Special Pipe Constructions (EEW SPC) is expanding its production capabilities at the Rostock plant in Germany to manufacture monopiles with diameters of up to 12 metres and unit weights of up to 3,000 tonnes from the second quarter of 2028.
The plant’s total annual production capacity is 200,000 tonnes under normal operating conditions, according to EEW SPC.
The company said the expansion, involving investments of tens of millions of euros in machinery, infrastructure and space optimisation, is aimed at preparing the plant for the next generation of offshore wind turbine foundations.
EEW SPC has manufactured monopiles, pin piles and other large-diameter pipe components at Rostock’s Overseas Port since 2008. The plant currently has the capability to manufacture monopiles with diameters of up to 10 metres.
Initial expansion measures, including refurbishment and hall construction, began in mid-2026 and are scheduled to be completed by early 2027. As part of the expansion, the company has acquired a neighbouring industrial site to provide additional space for raw material storage. Further investments will be made during 2027 and 2028 to enable the production of the larger monopiles.

This is particularly well-positioned to meet future demand, especially with regard to foundation manufacturers”, said Sascha Hofmeister, Technical Managing Director at EEW SPC.
“The result is a comprehensive range of products from European manufacturers that can fully meet future requirements without the need for imports from third countries such as China. The plant expansion therefore helps to ensure that European offshore expansion targets can be achieved reliably and at competitive costs.”
EEW SPC said it was also assessing potential further expansion phases at the Rostock site from 2030 onwards. These could eventually enable the manufacture of monopiles with diameters of up to 15 metres.
The company is consulting with state authorities, the City of Rostock and the port authority on potential expansion areas near the existing facility.
